Unveiling the truth behind the Scottish witch trials
16 May

Claire Mitchell KC and Zoe Venditozzi at the launch of their book at the Faculty of Advocates yesterday. Faculty members and staff joined them at a drinks reception where signed copies of “How to Kill a Witch: A guide for the patriarchy" were available. They are the co-founders of Witches of Scotland, established on International Women’s Day in 2020 and dedicated to seeking justice for the nearly 4,000 individuals, predominantly women, who were accused of witchcraft in Scotland between 1563 and 1736. The book brings the Scottish witch hunts to life with testimony from a small army of experts, pen portraits of the women accused, trial transcripts, witness accounts and the documents that set the legal grounds for these terrible injustices.
