Back by popular demand – Professional Regulation Conference

29 Apr

A second Professional Regulation Conference is being organised by the Faculty, on the back of a highly successful inaugural event last year.

The first conference drew wide acclaim and pleas that it become an annual event.

Hence, the Professional Regulation Conference 2019 will be held on Friday, 14 June, in the Faculty’s Mackenzie Building.

A number of expert speakers have been confirmed: Jim Percival, Principal Legal Adviser and Deputy General Counsel, General Medical Council; Donna O’Boyle, Professional Regulatory Adviser, Scottish Government; Mark Stobbs, Director of Scrutiny and Quality, Professional Standards Authority; Dr Leslie Hamilton, Chair of the independent review of gross negligence manslaughter and culpable homicide commissioned by the General Medical Council; Ryan Amesbury, Senior Lawyer, Fitness to Practise, Nursing and Midwifery Council; Amanda Millar, Vice President-elect, Law Society of Scotland; and Faculty members, Gerry Coll and Graeme Dalgleish.

Marian Gilmore, QC, will co-chair the conference with Una Doherty, QC. She said: “Professional regulation is on the up-and-up.  Some professional bodies have extended their boundaries, others have overhauled their disciplinary regimes, and the law faces interesting challenges.  This area provides a rich seam for lawyers with emotional intelligence.  You’ll be sure to strike gold at this highly topical conference, too.”
