New Clerk of Faculty

DAVID Welsh has been elected as the new Clerk of the Faculty of Advocates.

"I am delighted have been elected as the Clerk of Faculty by my colleagues. It is a great responsibility, as is any Office Bearer role within the Faculty of Advocates, but it is also an exciting challenge, and I am looking forward to getting started,” he said.

Mr Welsh called to the Scottish Bar in 2017 and to the Bar of England and Wales in 2019. He specialises in public and commercial law and is ranked as a Star Individual by Chambers and Partners. He has significant experience of public law challenges both against and for public bodies and is often instructed in high profile and complicated judicial reviews and applications.

Outgoing Clerk Barney Ross KC said: “I take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to my Faculty colleagues for all of their support during my term as Clerk; and for giving of their valuable time so generously to sustain our busy programme of advocacy training, outreach and regulatory work. My congratulations to David on his election, and I wish him great success and fulfilment in his new role."

Dean of Faculty Roddy Dunlop KC said: “On behalf of Faculty, I am delighted to welcome David Welsh as its new Clerk. David is well known across the profession for his expertise in public and commercial law and will be a significant asset to the Office Bearers. 

“I also express my sincere thanks to the outgoing Clerk, Barney Ross KC. Barney fully deserved Silk, and leaves the office of Clerk with the gratitude of all of Faculty for the very significant shift he has put in over these last four years.”
