World IP Day Conference 2021

22 Mar

BOOKINGS are now being taken for the Faculty’s 13th World Intellectual Property Day Conference 2021, which is expected once again to attract a full house.

This year’s conference will be held online on Friday, 23 April from 12.00 to 13.30.

As usual, the event is free and open to all Advocates, solicitors, devils, trainees, students and other professionals with an interest in IP. It will be chaired by Roisin Higgins QC, an IP law specialist, and Graeme McWilliams, former IP adviser at Standard Life.

Each year, the World Intellectual Property Organization suggests a theme for the World IP Day celebration and this year’s theme is “IP & SMEs: Taking your Ideas to Market.” Our two guest speakers will be discussing this theme and some of the other ways in which IP is relevant for businesses today. One of this year’s speakers is Charlie Blair, Managing Director at Gravitricity and formerly Head of Marine Energy in the Carbon Trust’s Innovation Team. Charlie is an experienced commercial leader, with 15 years’ experience in clean energy technology innovation and the IP issues involved. Charlie's talk will be on ‘Gravitricity’s IP journey.  A talk about how and why IP matters for innovative technology start-ups’

The second speaker is Robert Hokin, Managing Partner, Greenbackers Investment Capital and further details will be confirmed shortly.

Roisin Higgins said: “As we approach our 13th annual event, Graeme and I are delighted that the Faculty World IP Day Conference is still going strong. IP is a fascinating field to be involved in and we look forward to hearing what insights our guest speakers have to offer into the opportunities and challenges which IP presents for their businesses. Having had to cancel our conference last year, we are excited to be able to go online this year and hope this makes our event more accessible than ever.”

Registrants will be sent the link for the Zoom Webinar shortly before the event. You can register for the event here.
