Biography

Jonathan called to the Bar as a Lord Hope Scholar after 17 years practice as a criminal defence solicitor and solicitor advocate. Before calling he was a Director in an Edinburgh criminal defence practice.

Jonathan has extensive experience in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland and has appeared in cases in the High Court of Justiciary and Court of Criminal Appeal. He has been instructed in a variety of cases including attempted murder, sexual offences, serious and organised crime and drug offences. He was appointed as an Ad Hoc Advocate Depute in 2022.

Jonathan was elected President of the Edinburgh Bar Association in 2022. During his term as President he gave evidence to the Criminal Justice Committee of the Scottish Parliament in relation to the Victims, Witnesses and Justice Reform (Scotland) Bill.

Jonathan tutored in Criminal Court Practice at the University of Edinburgh Diploma in Professional Legal Practice.
