Biography

Gillian is an experienced criminal defence practitioner with a particular interest in human rights and child law.

 

Gillian began appearing in court within one week of her traineeship commencing and has remained a court practitioner ever since.  She called to the bar as a Lord Hope scholar after 6 years post-qualification as a criminal defence solicitor. 

 

As a solicitor she regularly conducted trials at both solemn and summary level.  She is experienced in challenging the admissibility of evidence, conducting trials within a trial, and challenging the compatibility of proceedings with the European Convention on Human Rights.  She has also represented clients at Children’s Hearings and Children’s referrals.

 

While deviling Gillian enhanced her existing practice and expanded her knowledge and enthusiasm for the fundamentals of criminal law and the law of evidence through appellate work.  She also gained experience in public law, human rights, fatal accident inquires and family law.
