Sheriff Principal Ronald Ireland, QC

The death has been announced of Ronald David Ireland, QC, a former Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands. He was 91.

Mr Ireland was admitted to Faculty in 1952 and served as Clerk of Faculty from 1957 to 1958, when he became Professor of Scots Law at Aberdeen University, holding the post until 1971. He took Silk in 1964.

He was appointed Sheriff at Edinburgh in 1972. In 1988, he was elevated to Sheriff Principal of Grampian, Highland and Islands and served until 1993.
