Biography

Expertise and experience in commercial law, employment law, judicial review, public and administrative law, human rights, and reparation including professional negligence and personal injury.  Extensive appellate experience.

Called 1979. QC 1994.  Formerly tutor in Mercantile Law at Edinburgh University.  Past member of Sheriff Court Rules Council.  Formerly Advocate and Senior Advocate Depute.  Past joint convener of Faculty of Advocates' Law Reform and Legislation Committee.


Civil advocacy and opinion practice.   Notable cases include City of Glasgow v Zafar (HL), Wisely v John Fulton (Plumbers) Ltd (HL), Stewart v Perth and Kinross Council (HL), Lord Advocate v Scotsman Publications Ltd (HL), Flynn v HM Advocate (PC), and Aitchison v Glasgow City Council (IH).  Senior counsel for patients and families at Vale of Leven Inquiry 2010-2012.
