Sentencing council post for QC

A NEW Advocate member has been appointed to the Scottish Sentencing Council.

Matt Jackson, QC, was named by the Lord Justice General to succeed Stephen O’Rourke, QC, who stepped down after five years on the Council.

Also appointed was Sheriff Principal Craig Turnbull, replacing Sheriff Principal Ian Abercrombie, QC, who has retired.

Lady Dorrian, Lord Justice Clerk and Chair of the SSC, welcomed the new members and said: “They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience which will be invaluable as we continue to develop a range of sentencing guidelines in line with our current business plan.”

Mr Jackson said: "I am really looking forward to contributing to this important process."

He joined the Faculty in 2000 and has become a leading figure in the criminal Bar, while also developing a special interest in fatal accident inquiries. He took Silk last year.
