SCBA ‘extremely hopeful’ after jury talks

THE Scottish Criminal Bar Association (SCBA) has expressed optimism after a roundtable discussion about jury trials during the COVID-19 emergency.

The Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Humza Yousaf, hosted the video conference in which the SCBA and other interested parties were represented.

Ronnie Renucci, QC, SCBA President, said: “The meeting was extremely inclusive and constructive, and it is clear that all parties are working hard to find a temporary solution that will allow solemn trials to recommence when the situation permits.

“Following the meeting, the SCBA is extremely hopeful that a workable solution will be found to enable this to happen. We look forward to further discussions with the Cabinet Secretary in the near future in order to achieve this."
