New leader for ‘vibrant’ SCBA

 

AN eventful few weeks for Ronnie Renucci, QC, have been capped with his appointment as President of the Scottish Criminal Bar Association.

Mr Renucci was among the list of new Queen’s Counsel announced in September, and now he has succeeded Claire Mitchell, who stepped down after two years as head of the SCBA.

He said: "I am delighted and honoured to have been elected to the position of President of the Scottish Criminal Bar Association. I fully intend to continue the excellent work in promoting and protecting the interests of the criminal Bar already undertaken by my predecessor, Claire Mitchell, during her tenure.

“And I will continue to champion the relevance of a strong criminal Bar in a modern justice system. I am particularly fortunate to take up office at a time when the criminal Bar is so vibrant and filled with a stock of talent well placed to take on any challenges that may lie ahead in the coming years."

Mr Renucci is a graduate of Dundee University. He was a solicitor in private practice in Glasgow for 16 years before calling to the Bar in 2001. From 2006 to 2010, he was Vice-Chairman of the Faculty of Advocates Criminal Bar Association, now the Scottish Criminal Bar Association.
