QCs to help explore issues of modern adoption

05 Oct

Two senior counsel are to help examine the issues of placing children for adoption outwith their home country.

The Adoption and Fostering Alliance Scotland is holding a conference, Families Across Borders, in Dundee on Friday, 7 October, and the speakers include Kirsty Hood, QC , Clerk of Faculty, and Kate Dowdalls, QC.

AFA Scotland said: “Intercountry and UK cross border adoptions were once a rare occurrence…This has changed due to the influx of unaccompanied asylum seeking minors, the need for the adoption of children outwith their own or parents’ country of origin, and the rise in the number of English couples seeking to adopt Scottish children.

“In response to this, professionals are expected to be familiar with the law and its application in different jurisdictions. Helping to navigate delegates through unchartered waters will be a host of experts whose experience and insight will point the way towards a greater understanding of the issues.”
