Shami Chakrabarti next up in JUSTICE Scotland series

12 Jan

The civil liberties and human rights campaigner, Shami Chakrabarti, will discuss her life and work in the second of the JUSTICE Scotland “Beyond Law” series of events, hosted by the Faculty.

Ms Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, was inspired by reading To Kill A Mocking Bird as a teenager to a life of campaigning on issues affecting all members of society.

She will look back in conversation with James Wolffe, QC, Dean of Faculty, in the event, “Law and Liberty: Reflections on Campaigning”, in the Laigh Hall, Parliament House, Edinburgh, on Friday, 22 January.

The “Beyond Law” series, chaired by Lord Hodge, the UK Supreme Court Justice, is part of the Securing JUSTICE at 60 Appeal. Through the appeal, JUSTICE, the law reform and human rights group, is hoping to raise £2 million by its 60th anniversary in 2017.

Last November, in the first event, General Sir Mike Jackson, Chief of the General Staff at the time of the Iraq war, and Lord (Menzies, Ming) Campbell of Pittenweem, QC, former leader of the Liberal Democrats, discussed the tensions between law and war.
