Summary sheriff appointment

26 Feb

A non-practising member of Faculty has been appointed a summary sheriff for Glasgow and Strathkelvin.

Walter Mercer has worked as a part-time sheriff since 2011 and has been a member of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland for nine years.

He was admitted to Faculty in 2000 and practised until 2014.

Earlier this month, two members of Faculty, Margaret Hodge and Allan McKay, were among those appointed Scotland’s first summary sheriffs, the judicial office created under the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014 to deal with some types of civil and criminal cases in the sheriff court.
