Appointment of Ian Forrester, QC, as Euro Judge

The Council of the European Union has announced the appointment of Ian Forrester, QC, as the next UK Judge of the General Court of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.

Mr Forrester, a graduate of Glasgow University and Tulane University, Louisiana, joined the Faculty in 1972, and took silk in 1988. He has enjoyed a distinguished career, during which he has also become a member of the New York State Bar, the Bar of England and Wales, and the Brussels Bar.

He regularly lectures on European Law – among his many appointments has been Honorary Professor of European Law at Glasgow University – and as well as appearing in Scottish, English and Belgian courts, he has conducted cases before the three European Community Courts and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The Council of the European Union said: “The representatives of member states’ governments appointed Mr Ian Stewart Forrester as judge to the General Court to replace Mr Nicholas Forwood (both United Kingdom) for the remainder of the latter’s term of office from 1 October 2015 to 31 August 2019.”

Mr Forrester will be sworn in to replace Mr Forwood, who has retired, on 7 October.
