Lorenzo Alonzi has a wealth of experience in all areas of criminal practice at the bar. He is primarily engaged in criminal defence work involving trials, confiscation of proceeds of crime, and criminal appeals.
Lorenzo has appeared as leading counsel in cases involving charges of murder and culpable homicide, as well as cases involving large-scale drugs operations and complex fraud and money-laundering schemes. He has appeared in a significant number of high profile cases raising Human Rights Issues.
Lorenzo has considerable experience in handling cases of serious sexual offences, often involving young children and witnesses with psychological difficulties or mental impairment; he has a particular expertise in the handling of such cases and in the cross-examination of child and vulnerable adult witnesses.
Lorenzo also has experience of prosecuting cases in the High Court as an ad hoc Advocate Depute for the Crown, and has acted as LPP Independent Counsel instructed by the Serious Fraud Office.
Lorenzo was born in Edinburgh but maintains ties with Italy and speaks Italian.
