Prior to calling to the Bar in 2002, Frances was a commercial solicitor in private practice for ten years, as an advocate she has extensive experience of conducting trials and hearings in the High Court of Justiciary in all areas of criminal law. In addition she is regularly instructed on behalf of companies charged with criminal offences.
Frances is also regularly instructed to represent clients at professional disciplinary proceedings, including before the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Teaching Council (GTC). In addition, she regularly represents clients before the Employment Tribunal.
Frances has extensive experience in Adoption and Children’s Referral Proceedings before the Sheriff where the issues involve complex medical evidence, particularly in alleged "shaken baby" cases.
In addition she is instructed to represent parties at Fatal Accident Inquiries.
