Biography

Since calling in 2010, Ewan’s principal practice has been criminal trials in the High Court.

He has secondary interests in family law and disability discrimination in employment. He tutors in Criminal Court Practice on the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the Edinburgh University.
Before devilling, Ewan worked at the Judicial Studies Committee for Scotland where he wrote the “Justice of the Peace Bench Book”, the “JP Court Legal Advisers’ Manual” and “Guidance on Signing Duties for JPs in Scotland”. He provided training on court-craft and judicial skills to all JPs in Scotland and devised the “Course of Training for Prospective Justices of the Peace in Scotland”.
Before working full time in the law, Ewan deployed his analytic skills in a range of fields. He worked and qualified as an investment analyst and pension fund manager and then lectured in mathematics and developed modelling software for parallel supercomputers.
