Biography

Derek is an Advocate, Barrister, Chartered Tax Advisor (Fellow) and Trust and Estate Practitioner and he specialises in Scots, E&W and cross-border tax and associated trust, executry and fiduciary duties.

He revises precedent trusts for national firms. He advises and appears in judicial variations of private and public trusts. He chaired TrustBar, the Bar’s Trusts special interest group from 2006 to 2012. He chairs Edinburgh Tax Network. Past member Scottish Law Commission trust review group and Committee of STEP, Convenor Bar’s and chairman STEP’s committees re SLC DP 142. He has spoken at CIOT Scottish and English Conferences and STEP Conferences and has written various articles on Tax and Trust. He is recommended by Chambers and Legal 500 for tax and trust.
