Biography

David's principal areas of practice include reparation (including property damage, personal injury, and clinical negligence), contractual and commercial disputes, planning and environmental law, public law (including judicial review), land law and compulsory purchase.

David called to the Scottish Bar in 1998 and took silk in 2013. He has appeared in the Supreme Court, the Privy Council and extensively in the Sheriff Court and Lands Tribunal. He has experience in lengthy FAIs in areas such as clinical negligence and the offshore industry, and in planning PLIs, and public inquiries such as the Stockline and Penrose Inquiries. He was Standing Junior to the Scottish Government from 2002 to 2013.

Before coming to the Bar, David was Associate Dean at Edinburgh University Law School. He published articles in peer reviewed journals, wrote a number of legal textbooks, and has contributed to authoritative reference works including Court of Session Practice and the Stair Memorial Encyclopaedia.
