QC in England and wales (2016) and Scotland (2002). Practising barrister as well as practising advocate. Member of chambers (crown Office chambers, London and compass chambers Edinburgh) in both jurisdictions.

Considerable experience in commercial work; personal injury; medical negligence. Numerous reported cases following trial and on appeal. Ten appearances (leading) in supreme court of uk and similar number in house of lords and privy council. Appearances in all types of appeals in supreme court – commercial, regulatory, personal injury, medical negligence, procedural, family. Commercial work at highest value level (e.g. kidd v burness paull, professional negligence with sum sued for over $200m); insurance litigation; catastrophic injury claims (generally in excess of £15m).

Appearance in several group action claims in scotland and England (hips, pip implants, Vioxx and celebrex, vaginal mesh; claims concerning vehicle emissions; and unlawful cartels, all for multiple parties, both claimants and defendants/defenders)

Experience of high value claims involving ADR. Attendance at several mediations as representative of a party (from high value commercial claims to high value personal injury claims). Instructed in arbitration as counsel (high value contractual claim with international dimension and with lcia)

Advisory work in England and Scotland on use of arbitration and mediation as method of dispute resolution.
