Recruitment Process

Interviews

Every interview is conducted by a panel. For junior positions the panel is made up of the Head of Department, the HR Manager and the Supervisor, if one exists for that position, and in some circumstances, the Chief Executive Officer. The Treasurer of Faculty or the Chairman of Faculty Services Limited may attend either the first or a subsequent interview, prior to appointment. For the position of Advocates Clerk and Deputy Advocates Clerk, the panel includes the Stable Director or his/her nominee.

The preferred interview format is as follows:

  • Chairperson's introduction (including brief details of organisation and job)
  • Candidate career history
  • Questions from panel
  • Candidate's questions
  • Candidate summary
  • Chairman's thanks and outline of next step

Questions must be designed to probe the interviewee's knowledge, ability and attitudes, and interviews will be structured so that every candidate has the opportunity to address the same issues.

A Presentation

If the role you are applying for requires you to be able to present concepts and solutions to other people, we may ask you to make a presentation to the panel on an agreed subject. Typically all managerial posts, together with specialist posts graded 3a – 1a require candidates to deliver a presentation as part of the selection process.
