Faculty of Advocates Open Day
News - date posted 25/10/11
The Faculty of Advocates next Open Day will take place on Monday 21
November 2011. The day will be split into a morning session (10am-12pm)
and an afternoon session (2pm-4pm).
In terms of the day itself, once everyone arrives in Parliament House,
they will be greeted by a member of staff from the Dean's Secretariat
and split into small groups. Each advocate assisting on the day will
then be allocated a group. The aim of the day is to give people an idea
of what an advocate is and does, to show them the advocate's workplace
and to provide an insight to the history of the Faculty itself. It is
hoped that a visit to the advocates clerking area with an introduction
to the advocate's clerks can be arranged, to give attendees some insight
into the part the clerks play in an advocate's daily business. It is
also hoped that the groups will be taken into a live courtroom in order
to see a case or, if this is not possible, to spend some time in an
actual courtroom and for the advocate to explain a bit more about how it
works. To finish things off, it is expected that the advocates will
conduct a question and answer session.
Anyone interested in attending the Open Day should contact Gaynor Adam,
whose details can be found below, in order to secure a place at one of
the sessions. Please note that places will be allocated on a first come
first served basis.
