Conference in Memory of Lord Rodger

Friends and colleagues of Lord Rodger of Earlsferry are to meet in his memory at a conference on legal history and Roman Law at the University of Glasgow.

The conference is being organised by Ernest Metzger, Douglas Professor of Civil Law at the university and David Johnston QC and will take place on the afternoon of September 7 and the morning of September 8 with a champagne reception and dinner on the evening of the 7th.

The speakers are Tiziana Chiusi, Professor of Civil Law, Roman Law and Comparative Law at the University of Saarland, Michael Crawford, Emeritus Professor of History, University College London, Robin Evans-Jones, Professor of Jurisprudence, University of Aberdeen, Joshua Getzler, Professor of Law and Legal history, University of Oxford, Kenneth Reid, Professor of Scots Law, University of Edinburgh, John Richardson, Emeritus Professor of Classics, University of Edinburgh and Boudewijn Sirks, Professor of Civil Law, University of Oxford.

Lord Rodger, who was Solicitor General and Lord Advocate before being appointed as Lord Justice General of Scotland, latterly served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

He wrote on legal history and Roman Law for more than 40 years and remained an active legal scholar while pursuing his career, first as an advocate, then as a Law Officer and finally as a Judge.
