| To develop, tailor, support and maintain software to deliver business focused IT applications to meet the requirements of the Faculty of Advocates and Faculty Services Limited. |
Main Responsibilites:
•To develop bespoke software, including web based applications, within a Microsoft .Net environment, to meet the business objectives of the Faculty and FSL •To liaise with end users to define and refine business application requirements •To maintain bespoke software and to provide end user support •To produce systems and software documentation •To review the suitability of commercial off-the-shelf IT packages. •To provide technical training and support as required •To advise and assist in developing IT strategy •To undertake other projects as reasonably assigned by the Chief IT Officer

Education/Experience:
The post holder should possess a higher degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) with experience of working on multiple software projects within a commercial environment. As indicative guidance 5 years experience is desirable, but the post holder may have less years of experience provided they possess the necessary skills and abilities to perform the role. Development experience with Microsoft technologies and the .NET framework including the following areas are essential: Visual Studio; C#; ASP.NET; SQL Server and the following areas are desirable: Dynamics CRM; SharePoint; Telerik AJAX toolset.

Learning period:
A period of one year is required for the post holder to become fully familiar with the full remit and demands of the position.

Skills:
Excellent communication skills, ability to meet deadlines, attention to detail, logical, self-starter.
|
Supervision received:
Supervision is general and is achieved through regular updates on progress and the monitoring and reporting of end results. Tasks are left very largely to the job holder's initiative.
|
Decisions made:
Major planning decisions will be made in consultation with the Chief IT Officer.
|
Accountability:
The design and development work significantly impacts the organisation’s ways of working. Implementation errors could result in the loss of computer services which could compromise the work of the whole organisation.
|
Work complexity:
The work is technically complex and relies on the practical application of a wide range of skills and experience. Sudden changes of work occur frequently during the course of the working day.
|
Creativity:
Creative thinking is a fundamental aspect of this position. Problems must often be solved in an original way.
|
Internal:
All end users including Members of Faculty and Faculty Officials; in order to provide advice on appropriate solutions and working procedures required to meet necessary objectives.
External:
Agencies; discussions in order to identify appropriate solutions. |
Other factors:
The Software Engineer must be able to work effectively in teams involving IT and other staff. |
