Faculty of Advocates & Faculty Services Limited

Faculty of Advocates

The Faculty of Advocates is a body of independent lawyers who have been admitted to practise as Advocates before the Courts of Scotland. Faculty Records date as far back as 1532 when the College of Justice was established by an Act of the Scottish Parliament, though its origins are believed to predate that event.

Faculty Services Limited

Faculty Services Limited, set up by the Faculty of Advocates in 1971, provides subscribers with a comprehensive range of facilities and services to assist with the administration of their practices. A limited liability company, financed by commission from fee income, Faculty Services Limited operates on a non-profit making basis. All Members of Faculty have the option of subscribing to the company, but this is by no means compulsory and some choose to make private arrangements in relation to administrative matters.

Day-to-day Management - The control of day-to-day management rests with the office bearers but the Council meets once every month and, amongst other things, is intended to be an important policy making body assisting the office bearers in the running of the Faculty.
