Biography

Susan called to the Bar in 2021 as a Lord Hope Scholar following a 15-year career as a solicitor in civil and criminal practice.


Susan had a lengthy career in private practice and local government, undertaking a broad range of civil litigation in areas including; permanence & adoption, financial provisions on divorce/cohabitation, employment and housing law. Regularly litigating in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court and tribunals.

Susan has a specialism in Child Law litigating contentious and complex cases, leading evidence from child and vulnerable witnesses. She was appointed by to the Panel of Safeguarders in 2013 and is a Curator ad Litem and Reporting Officer in Edinburgh.

Susan is experienced in criminal summary and solemn proceedings. She appeared in Sheriff Courts and instructed Counsel in The High Court of Justiciary. She sits as a Justice of the Peace in Edinburgh and is a member of The Scottish Sentencing Council.
