Stephen was also ranked by Legal 500 as a leading individual at the Bar in 2015 and described as ‘highly regarded’.
Stephen has appeared in the UK Supreme Court, the Inner and Outer House of the Court of Session, the Sheriff Court, Land Court, Lands Tribunal and Tax Tribunal. He has a regular Valuation for Ratings practice. He has appeared in planning inquiries, before the Traffic Commissioner and before the Administrative Appeals Chamber of the Upper Tribunal. He has represented solicitors before the Scottish Solicitors Discipline Tribunal.
Stephen also has significant defence experience in the areas of regulatory and environmental crime. He was a full time Advocate Depute (High Court prosecutor) between 2010 and 2013.
Stephen is a trained and accredited mediator through the New York Center for Understanding in Conflict (where he trained in 2013) and a member of the Scottish Mediation Network. He is a director of the Faculty of Advocates Dispute Resolution Service and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He accepts instructions both to appear in arbitrations and as arbitrator.
