Maurice O'Carroll qualified as a solicitor in 1991 with a commercial law firm and thereafter worked in Brussels for two years after a period of training with the European Commission.
He studied law at Edinburgh University, graduating with an Honours degree in 1988. In 1995, Maurice called to the Scottish Bar where now specialises in Employment, Commercial, Public and Planning Law.
Maurice is a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Secretary of the Faculty of Advocates Employment Law Group, which he founded in 2010, and is the Vice-Chairman of the Faculty of Advocates Planning Group.
·Ad hoc Advocate Depute since 2002.
·Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government 2003-2012.
·Legal Chair and Board Member of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission 2011-2016.
·Legal Chair of the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber) since 2012.
