Biography

Marian Gilmore practises mainly in the fields of clinical negligence, aviation, personal injury (notably,catastrophic injuries), mental health, occupational stress, disciplinary and regulatory hearings, and Fatal Accident Inquiries.

Dr. Gilmore formerly had a significant career as legal adviser to a French bank, a helicopter manufacturer and a leading pharmaceutical company. With 2 post-graduate degrees in French law, her cases often involve a foreign element. Her aviation practice has included 2 successful appeals to the House of Lords, FAIs, and litigation resulting from the crash of Air France flight 447. Her clinical negligence practice ranges from birth injuries to pharmaceutical claims. She has a particular expertise in matters of psychiatric medicine (e.g. suicide, PTSD and brain damage). Appointments include: Convener, Mental Health Tribunal Scotland (since 2004); Chair, Police Appeals Tribunal (since 2013); Legal Assessor, Nursing and Midwifery Council (since 2006).
