John McLaughlin has practised as a lawyer since 1987. He worked as a solicitor for five years before being called to the Bar in 1993.
John's expertise is in criminal law, human rights law and public law. He has been instructed for the defence in numerous serious, complex, sensitive and high profile cases. He has appeared in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in human rights cases that would now be dealt with by the UK Supreme Court; the Court of Criminal Appeal; the High Court of Justiciary; and the Sheriff Court. He deals with all of the technical and procedural issues that arise in both the preparation and presentation of every case in which he receives instructions with the greatest of care.
