Details of Professional Practice

Originally a solicitor in both Scotland and England, Janys became an advocate in 1992 and took silk in 2007.  Since then she has practiced in family law, education law and public law, including human rights.  She regularly advises on policy and practice issues and is instructed as an advocate at all levels of court in Scotland.  Since taking silk she has argued four cases in the UK Supreme Court.  She also sits as a part-time sheriff.
