Biography

Formerly a solicitor in the public sector, in her early years at the bar Miss Carmichael engaged in  civil work including reparation, medical negligence, and a substantial body of work acting as an ad hoc procurator fiscal depute (including conducting a Fatal Accident Inquiry), as well as acting as a crown junior. 

Since 2009, she has developed an area of interest in cases under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, particularly in the civil sphere. 

She is the author of “Confiscation and Civil Recovery: a guide to parts 3 and 5 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002” (W Green, 2013). 

She was appointed an ad-hoc Advocate Depute in March 2015.
