Biography

Since his call Gerry has enjoyed a busy practise both at the junior and senior bars, his caseload is predominantly high end personal injury claims and professional and clinical negligence claims, and he is also frequently instructed in commercial litigation involving complex factual disputes.

Gerry Hanretty qualified as a solicitor in 1980. After practising as a partner in two firms in Glasgow he elected to further his career at the bar and passed advocate in 1990.

He served as an Advocate Depute between 2001 and 2003. In addition he served on the panel of prosecuting counsel for the Faculty of Advocates in relation to disciplinary matters. He has also served as a Convener of the Mental Health Tribunal for Scotland and as Convener of the Police Appeal Tribunal for Scotland.
