Biography

Denis called to the Scottish Bar in 2012 having been a member of the Bar of England and Wales since 2002.  He specialises in all areas of public law and EU law, including environmental law, public procurement, planning, agriculture, marine planning, social security, VAT, immigration, education, mental health, community care and discrimination law (especially disability discrimination).

He has appeared in all levels of court and tribunals, including the Supreme Court and House of Lords, the Court of Appeal, High Court, Upper Tribunal and the Employment Tribunal.

Prior to calling to the Bar of England & Wales, Denis was a lecturer in law at the University of Strathclyde (1990-94) and Assistant Professor of Law at the City University of Hong Kong (1995-2000). In addition, he has been a law lecturer at the Universities of Giessen and Frankfurt in Germany, a visiting professor of law at Tulane and held a human rights teaching fellowship at Columbia Law School in 2000-2001.
