Biography

Catherine’s principal areas of work are personal injury, where she regularly acts for pursuers and defenders; and public law, particularly judicial review.

She also has experience in cases involving commercial contracts; and criminal trials and appeals.

She was appointed Standing Junior Counsel to the Advocate General in 2012 and to the Equality and Human Right Commission Panel of Counsel in 2015.

Catherine appears regularly in the Court of Session and the High Court, and appeared before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (now the Supreme Court) in the cases addressing the issue of Crown disclosure of evidence in 2008.

Catherine has a strong commitment to promoting the rule of law and human rights. She is a founding member and executive board member of JUSTICE Scotland; co-founder of the John Smith Centre for Public Service at Glasgow University; and is the Director of Advocacy for Beyond Borders, a Scottish NGO.
