Biography

Over the years Alan has built and sustained a broad-based practice in civil litigation, appearing in a wide variety of courts and tribunals. He has specialised latterly in professional negligence (in particular, clinical negligence claims), commercial disputes and land-related cases.

Alan McLean KC holds degrees from Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities. He gained experience of private practice in an Edinburgh solicitors' firm, mainly in civil litigation, before coming to the Bar in 1993. He took silk in 2008.  Alan was the author of the chapters on Intellectual Property Actions in Lord Macfadyen's Court of Session Practice. He has given numerous CPD talks to solicitors, particularly on civil advocacy. He has frequently been ranked in Chambers for Clinical Negligence:
